Has guided Park University to eight appearances in the NAIA National Tournament (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2013). In 2008, Park qualified for its seventh-straight NAIA National Tournament, which was the third-longest active streak in the country

Before his appointment at Park, the Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, native played professionally for the 1997 World Champion Kansas City Attack of the National Professional Soccer League, as well as the Daytona Speed Kings and Columbus Comets.

In 2002-2003, under coach Shimlis Eric Ongao was named the NAIA Men’s Soccer Player of the Year.

Has coached 15 individuals who have earned All-American designations in his 16 previous seasons at Park; two first team, two-second team, four third team and seven honorable mentions.

Shimlis has coached 25 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Awarded AMC Coach of the Year in 2010 and MCAC and Region IV as Coach of the Year 2007.
