Why was the soccer field wet on a sunny day?

The players dribbled all over it.

The weather for Spring has been a rollercoaster. One day we are running around in our shorts and the next we are all bundled up. While the weather hasn't quite made up its mind on what it wants to do, the KC Islanders Futbol Club has been working hard through the weather conditions and making improvements to our programs. To find out what we have been up to, please read below:

WELCOME OUR NEW COACHES:

We are pleased to announce that Coach Lester and Effrim have decided to join us at KC Islanders Futbol Club!

COACH LESTER

Although many of you may have seen him around or know him, there are a few that have not had the wonderful opportunity to be coached by Coach Lester.

He coached at KCA for the Fives and Overland Park soccer for 6 years. He has been training kids for over 15 years, including his own twin daughters.

Coad had played for a semi-pro team, Chicago Vikings but due to injuries, he had to leave his dreams behind about being a professional soccer player. This only caused him to find out that his true passion is the development of kids in the game that he loves....soccer. He strives to assist players to reach not only their goals but also to reach their fullest potential. His unique lens makes playing soccer a memorable experience.

COACH EFFRIM

Coach Effrim has had a vast array of experience when it comes to soccer and is currently the head coach for Park University. Some of the many accomplishments that he has conquered include:

  • Has guided Park University to eight appearances in the NAIA National Tournament (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2013). In 2008, Park qualified for its seventh-straight NAIA National Tournament, which was the third-longest active streak in the country.

  • Before his appointment at Park, the Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, native played professionally for the 1997 World Champion Kansas City Attack of the National Professional Soccer League, as well as the Daytona Speed Kings and Columbus Comets.

  • In 2002-2003, under coach Shimlis Eric Ongao was named the NAIA Men’s Soccer Player of the Year.

  • Has coached 15 individuals who have earned All-American designations in his 16 previous seasons at Park; two first-team, two-second team, four third team, and seven honorable mentions.

  • Shimlis has coached 25 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

  • Awarded AMC Coach of the Year in 2010 and MCAC and Region IV as Coach of the Year 2007.

  • In 2007, the team earned the NELS Dahlquist Team Sportsmanship Award.
